Alanis Morissette - Not As We Lyrics
Reborn and shivering
Spat out on new terrain
Unsure, unconvincing
this faint and shaky hour
Day one, day one
Start over again
Step one, step one
I’m barely making sense
For now I’m faking it
‘Til I’m pseudo-making it
From scratch, begin again
But this time I as “I”
And not as “we”
Gun-shy and quivering
Timid without a hint
Feign brave with steel intent
Little and hardly here
Day one, day one
Start over again
Step one, step one
With not much making sense
Just yet I’m faking it
’til I’m pseudo-making it
From scratch, begin again
But this time I as “I”
And not as “we”
Eyes wet,
Toward wide open frayed
If God is taking bias,
I pray he wants to lose
Day one, day one
Start over again
Step one, step one
I’m barely making sense
Just yet I’m faking it
‘Til I’m pseudo-making it
From scratch, begin again
But this time I as “I”
And not as “we”

Probably the most powerful song of this somewhat mediocre CD. I think Alanis could sing a grocery list and make it sound great. I like it when she get’s back to basics.

I really love this song, but what is she trying to say ?

She’s breaking up with someone, and now she’s I instead of WE like when she was with someone. Day one-starting over again…w/o that person, starting life over agian on your own…??

What this guy above mentioned about the grocery thing is true. Every time she’s got something new to release is bombastic. This song in particular has helped me facing positively a “break up” I’ve came thru one of these days. She’s just like a soulmate to me

Just one correction: the line is “If God is taking bets, I pray he wants to lose.”
Thank you for putting the lyrics up, though.
