Hallelujah by Alexandra Burke, the winner of the fifth UK series of The X Factor, Music Video and Lyrics
Hallelujah is the debut single from British pop and R&B singer Alexandra Burke, who beat JLS and Eoghan Quigg to win the fifth series of The X Factor.
The television talent competition was broadcast on ITV in 2008. The series premiered on 16 August and was won by Alexandra Burke on 13 December, with Cheryl Cole emerging as the winning mentor.
The song, a cover of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, was released as a download on 14th December 2008, and will be physically released on Wednesday 17 December 2008.

Absolutely amazing. Just for reference, Alexandra doesn’t sing (as you’ve printed it) verses 3 and 4, at least on the standard download single, just 1,2 and 5. Is there going to be more on the CD single?

She more than deserved to win this. I have just watched this perfomance again an im overwhelmed with the passion. She has all the ualities of all the singers whos songs she has sang and then some. She even outshone Beyonce. She is going to be a HUGE star. The british public finally got their hearing sorted after last years tragedy of a winner who couldnt hold a note, nd chosen a worthy winner.

An absolutely awful over produced version of an absolutely brilliant song (Although she sings it well.. my problem is with the production, not he singing)
But if it encourages people to listen to other versions.. namely Jeff Buckleys then that can only be a good thing.

A nice tune, no doubt about it. But, do you understand the lyrics? Do you know what hallelujah really mean? It means “Give praise to Jehovah”. This song has nothing to do with praising God.

Am more than impressed with this song. Its so wonderful that I had to go on net to find out more about Alexandra. She deserves more of the best and should keep the flag flying. Go Girl….

mmmh!, i listened to that song over and over again, it was full of great immense passion, i like the build up too. started quite slowly then bursted out and continued with such momentum.. she deserves to win, and the lyrics (story line) was just awesome.. she probably used the Biblical David character…i was touched…u deserved it..

Didn’t see the show. Only the video. Alex is fantastic! Although I enjoyed her singing immensely, I don’t understand the text. I’m totally dependent on her emotional delivery (and she has plenty of emotion) which makes me want to hear her again and again. There are so many seemingly unrelated themes. I’m confused. Can anyone tell me what the song is about???
