Alexandra Burke won The X Factor Final

Alexandra Burke is the winner queen of the 2008 X-Factor final show.

The North London singer competed with her fellow finalists JLS and Eoghan Quigg.
Earlier in the evening, Eoghan became the first finalist to be voted off the final. When he failed, Eoghan wished his co-finalists good luck and said thanks to everybody.
Simon Cowell congratulated him: ‘You’re a great kid; you can leave here with your head held high.’

JLS and Alexandra sang versions of Leonard Cohen’s classic track ‘Hallelujah‘, but it was the 20-year-old Alexandra who secured the majority of the eight million public votes to triumph over the boyband. She burst into tears of joy, saying ‘Thank you for making my dreams come true everyone. Thank you.’

Alexandra understood her fellow finalists who failed at the X-Factor, as three years ago, she auditioned and made it through to the final 21, only to be rejected by judge Louis Walsh. After the programme, she said: ‘I went for this show three years ago and I got told to go home because I wasn’t ready. I took three years to get myself ready, I came back and look what’s happened.’

The next surprise of the evening was when Beyonce appeared from backstage and duet on ‘My Own’ with Alexandra. The moment seemed to be a little too much for the young winner who started crying and saying to the R’N'B singer that she has made her dreams come true. Moreover, Boyzone took the stage to sing alongside 16-year-old Egohan Quigg on their smash hit ‘Picture Of You‘.

Then, Laura White, Diana Vickers, Ruth Lorenzo, Rachel Hilton, Scott Bruton, Austin Drage, Daniel Evans, Girlband and Bad Lashes took the stage to perform a stirring rendition of soul classic ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’, the best-known version of which was sung by Diana Ross in 1970.

Alexandra Burke has just won a £1million record contract. Her engagement diary filled up: she will have a New Year’s Eve appearance with Sir Elton John at London’s O2 and she will release ‘Hallelujah’ as a single.
