Ms. Ashanti,
I am an older but not old woman. But I was your age during the ’70’s. We were a pretty radical group and brought about most of the changes that still exist today. Your image, lyrics and inuendo in Good, Good reminds me of the 1950’s era that we fought against.
The myth(pre-1970)that we fought so hard to dispel was that the woman’s behavior (good or bad) caused a man to cheat. So if a woman is:
1. “good” in the bed
2. cleans the house “good”
3. if she shops “good” (doesn’t spend too much of his money), then the man will be faithful.
Right!! It’s all up to the woman. so you sisters (black, white, yellow, red, brown), all sisters just knock yourselves out.
1. Get up at 5 am to make sure you have a good hot breakfast and bath for him before he leaves for work.
2. Lay his clothes out real good.
3. Get the kids ready for school (pack those lunches and get their clothes ready and comb hair) so that they have a good day
4. Get yourself ready and looking good so you can go to your job
5. Get to work by 7:30 so you can keep that good job and stay til 5 or 5:30
6. Pick the kids up from day care or after school programs and don’t forget to stop by the grocery store or the dry cleaners and run all those errands like a good girl
7. Now go home and cook that good dinner (no leftovers) so it’s ready by 6:30 when he walks in the door because he probably had a chance to stop at the gym or had a drink with the fellas before coming home
8. Eat dinner and make sure you make him feel good when he tells you about his bad day
9. Help the kids with their homework so they can make good grades
10. Get the kids ready for bed so that they get a good night’s sleep
11. Now clean the house so that it looks good just in case his family or friends stop by. He’s gotta let them know he’s got a good wife.
12. Now take your bath so that when you get in the bed you smell good.
13. Now make sure you please him real good since you have all of that left over energy.
14. Make sure you let him know he’s oh so good (you know that’s your job.
15. Now after four hours of sleep you get to start all over again. Except on Saturday.
16. On Saturday you get to do the real housework (not just picking up); the laundry, clean the stove, refrigerator
17. You also get to go grocery shopping, wash and gas your car and drive the kids to various practices
NOW MAKE SURE YOU’RE DOING ALL THAT REAL GOOD!!!
Let me share with you young sister. There’s nothing that you can do Good or Not Good that will make a righteous man cheat on his wife or woman. And if he’s a cheater there’s nothing you can ever do Good enough to make him stop.
So thank you for resurrecting that old hype that we buried thirty years ago. And by all means let the young women of today (teens and early twenties) believe that all they have to do is to BE REAL GOOD!!!!!
