The song debuted August 1, 2008 on New York City radio station Z100, and was leaked later that day.
A digital download of the song became available on August 12, 2008.
After just one day of airplay, “Crush” was able to debut at #93 on the Billboard Pop 100 and #57 on Pop 100 Airplay.
Following the song’s digital release onto the U.S. iTunes store on August 12, 2008, the song rose to the #1 spot on iTunes in less than 24 hours, dethroning Rihanna’s “Disturbia.”

David has delivered an amazing first single to his fans, and the public. It is rhythmic, David’s superior vocals soar and are identifiable throughout, has a catchy beat.. Hey-> I watched lotsa American Bandstand back in the day

David has a fresh appeal and a talent that cannot be denied. I have been impressed with his growth as a person, and as an artist since his first Idol appearance. It’s good to see someone so young be given an opportunity to realize their dreams, and to have him be as down to earth, humble and as appreciative as his fans are of the success he’s attained. I look forward to buying his album, keeping tabs on his career, and getting to see him perform as a solo artist. WELL DONE David on a great year of surprises and successes - and here’s to many more of the same!

I’m so happy for David’s success with this first song. He is an awesome example for my teenagers. I wish I could thank him personally for the great influence he has been on my family as we have watched him over this last year and grew to love who he is and what he stands for. Don’t ever loose track of who you really are no matter how much sudden success you may see. David has great talent but the spirit he carries with him is even greater.

I just love David’s new song! I can’t wait until his new CD comes out. He has a great voice and I was brought to tears when watching him perform on Idol. Like Sher says, he carries a great spirit. Keep the songs coming, David.

I hated him on Idol, he annoyed me and I didn’t think he could sing as well as everyone was making him out to be. It also annoyed the crap out of me that all these little girls were obsessed with him.
I was always (and still am) in love with David Cook and Danny Noriega.
That said; I’m addicted to this song.
I think it’s more of the fact that it fits into my life right now.
I still may not be fond of him, but I think I’ll listen to some more of his music. So far, I like what I hear.
