The song was released to iTunes on September 8, 2008. It was number 68 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Best Songs of 2008.
The video was directed by Alan Ferguson and was released on on September 25, 2008.

i kinda sense it to be mimmiking “Personal Jesus” and a mash of their other songs. I thought they were going more to their roots. But nah!…… kidna sucky i miss their old beat and energy that they portrayed…. hope that all the other songs aren’t much like this one and more like the best album they ever wrote “From Under The Cork Tree”

I’ve listened to fall out boy since switchblades and infedelity, i love them but i wish they would go back to their original sound, that’s what made them original, now everyone can be in a band that sounds like them, it’s sort of annoying, But i still like the song, it’s really catchy.

OK, I’m really liking this song. It may not be like their old stuff, which admitted was very good, but at least they’ve progressed as a band. They wouldn’t have such a varied fan base if they hadn’t changed over time, and their music would seem dated and get boring if it was all the same.
It’s about time a band can actually change their sound and still remain a good quality band. Not like that POS Panic! At The Disco! Their first album was amazing, not like the rubbish new one =/

Honestly, when I first found out that Fall Out Boy had a new single out, like any fan, I was ecstatic. More curious than ecstatic though, but whatever, same thing. I previewed it on iTunes at first and wasn’t really pleased. So I had to preview the whole song and I’m definitely not pleased as to the direction Fall Out Boy is going with their sound. Their mainstream beat interferes with the lyrics - you can barely hear them. And to me, that’s what makes a song. I mean, do you listen to music that has no words to it all the time? I don’t.
As for the beat, it’s unique, that’s all that I can say. I don’t really care for it, but whatever suits Fall Out Boy and their Pete Wentz-Ashlee Simpson fame.

it’s true though you can hear the difference in take this to your grave and the new single but if your seriously a fall out boy fan you’ll love the change because you love them not if there a garage band or mainstream . so what if what they’re doing is kind of mainstream maybe what’s mainstream to you is what they like , in any case if you like them you like them no matter what .

I actually was excited when i realized who i was listening to when i cam across it playing on the radio. I have read so many comments about how they miss “from under the cork tree” which yes was also one of my favorites but i have to say “Take this To Your Grave” will always be my favorite b/c it’s still got their ‘we’re a new band doing our own thing’ feel from “An Evening out with your girlfriend” but with the right sound engineering etc. of a more experienced band. I’m excited for a new album no matter what because i always have and always will be a FOB fan. Though i can honestly say i’m more of a fan of Joes hair short and Andy’s straightened from back in the day when they toured w/ The Academy is and Gym Class Heros in the Fouled by Ramen Tour in the early 2000’s. =)

FOB does not have the same sound as they used to… That it clear. But when I see all of these comments negative towards them I know they have to like the new FOB anyways… THEY LOOKED FOR THE LYRICS to start. I think “Infinity On High” really was different and I was not too impressed, but to be honest this song sounds NOTHING like those. and it’s not half bad either :). I think many old time FOB fans may be surprised with Follie a Duex as I think “it will have some “Infinity on High” and “Take this to Your Grave” in it. This was a very good song in my opinion though, great lyrics and Patrick’s voice really fits to it.

Alright, this is a good song, but it’s not FOB as they used to be. This is like a watered down wannabe mainstream FOB. They don’t have the OOMPH in this song that they did in their others. The lyrics aren’t as strong, the beat is just generic. It’s good, but it’s not great, and their other stuff was GREAT. I’m praying they don’t go the P!ATD (yeah, I put in the ! lol) route and completely change everything. P!ATD failed on their last CD, huge disappointment, I can’t even stand it. Please, FOB, don’t fail >.<

This song may be different, more “pop-like” you could say but if you are a true fan you will explore the new style with them. Fall out boy can pull off this new style and you have to believe they can do it. Its genious that they can do a new style and people still love it - thats why i love fob so much. The lyrics still have so much potential and meaning to them. Im not sure about the introduction still though, very adventurous.

I love some f.o.b , but I’m a little dissapointed with this song, I trust the cd will be great, but they could have done much better. Ah well, they will always rock no matter what with the songs they already have but I hope they don’t continue the timeless trend of good (or great) bands that justlose it. The mix they put up sounded alright though. I will still go grab the cd, but I will be crossing my fingers when I do.

This is a cool song, the lyrics are amazing, the beat is catchy… but it just doesn’t seem fall out boy to me. I miss the Take This To Your Grave/From Under The Cork Tree days. I know everyone changes, but I still miss the old days. I am and always will be a diehard, but this song is somewhat disappointing.

Fall Out Boy started out as anxsty teens not wanting to grow up, to being nostalgic and pessimistic, and depressed, to adults who are accepting the fact that they learned from their life and have lived a great one. I love how every album is diverse. Like Patrick said, “We won’t write another Take this to Your Grave because we’ll never be 15 again, and that stuff won’t happen to us again. Every album we make is the same process, its just the times.” And this is what makes Fall Out Boy a great band no matter what.
I love this single and I can’t wait for Folie a Deux to be released. Remember Nov. 4 on Voting Day.

I would have to agree with this. Panic at the Disco.. and I am sorry to say did not evolve as a band. They said, “We don’t like the direction the music is going. And we’re bored with what we’ve done. We want to be more organic sounding. We want to be like the Beatles.”

Right, you all call yourselfs FOB fans, yet you can slate this song. This is their 5th album they have sold multi platinum records. Have won awards. They have a strong and loyal following, or atleast i thought they did. To be a good band you need to change with the times, i think this is different from their old stuff but it still has some stuff from their origins and thats good. They’re lyrics still have the same qualities. Listen to the lyrics and all of you critics that are saying this song will shut up. ‘I don’t care what you think as long as its about me’

How any of you can say that they have gone mainstream confuses me, this song has the same qualitites as most of their other songs.
I saw Fall Out Boy last night, and it was the best experience of my life. they were so good and are so dedicated to their fans. Its such a shame when people who claim to be their fans go and critique their music, you try releasing that many albums and having that many sold out tours, see if you don’t release a safe song, a catchy song to bring in new fans keep people interested. Not to mention write ALL your own songs.
And as for the comment about the pete ashlee fame, what the F*** are you talking about, they got married, are having a kid. Yet Pete can still find the time to have a european tour. Make/Release a new album.

My GOD, a decent band has to change or they get slated, if they change they get slated. jeeeeeeeeeez. Give them a break. A true fan would realise this song IS like their old stuff, well the lyrics are. Maybe not the beat. I saw this song live and it fucking rocked.

Awesome AWESOME song. and i absolutly LOVE IT! but.. its so sad that they can’t release it tomorow (november 4th) because its election day. and i guess someone has a problem with fall out boy. oh well.. i guess it’ll eventually come out :)

I’d never call myself a fan of FOB, because the only songs I know from them are Dance, Dance, Sugar We’re Going Down, Homesick At Space Camp and now I Don’t Care. But this song is just okay for me, I guess, though the remix with Cobra Starship is amazing. So much better than the original.
