tj i don’t think it’s to do with an american accent so much, it’s a whole vocal style, which would have been chosen as appropriate to the song (written by a british song-writing company) and to her voice - trained at the Ciccone Academy of Performing Arts (comment from their website: “We concentrate on developing the voice. We make sure that the voice is well connected from ‘chest to head’ without a break using the revolutionary technique taught at the Ciccone Academy” http://www.cicconeacademy.com.au
they train something called “speech level singing”
i didn’t identify the voca style in “sweet about me” as specifically american, but if it is, i’m happy enough for a talented singer to make use of styles from around the world & not only her home country
but i guess if you don’t like the song you just don’t like it.

This girl is really amazing, im a singer myself and this give a message for people my age and her age that can actually be what they want to be and she has gotten far and it amazes me so much shes got a lovely voice and i hope that it sends a good message to people not to put them down but tell them TO KEEP TRYIN YOUR HARDEST

I think the sweet about me song is absolute rubbish, does she think she is an american junkie? She sounds like a retard. I hope she gives it all away very soon. It’s currently the most annoying song on the radio closely followed by anything from the veronicas.

Tuned in to the end of “Strictly Come Dancing” (”Strictly” not my normal viewing diet) on BBC1 tonight so as to catch the start of the following program. Saw the last pair of contestants and was captivated by the song they were dancing to. Being a dinosaur and not into “popular culture”, I had never heard this song before, let alone knew who the performer was. After having a play around on line I found the song was “Sweet about me” and found myself writing a first on a site like this. What an amazing song; lyrics a bit too repetitive at times but loved it. Going to preview the album it’s from “Lessons to be learnd”. Not done that in years after only hearing one track.
This song is now buzzing in my head and won’t go away. A welcome relief from Beethoven’s 5th Symphony which has been there for the last few weeks, and put there coutesy of BBC’s, “The Maestos”
