GREEN DAY LYRICS - Wake Me Up When September Ends

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends

like my fathers come to pass
seven years has gone so fast
wake me up when September ends

here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are

as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when September ends

summer has come and passed
the innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends

ring out the bells again
like we did when spring began
wake me up when September ends

here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are

as my memory rests
but never forgets what I lost
wake me up when September ends

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
wake me up when September ends

like my father’s come to pass
twenty years has gone so fast
wake me up when September ends
wake me up when September ends
wake me up when September ends

Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends Song Info

There once was much debate about what the song was about, one of the most common initial beliefs being that it is about the events of 9/11. However, Billie Joe Armstrong has confirmed to the public that the song was written as a memorial anthem about his father, a jazz musician and minor league baseball catcher, who died of esophageal cancer when Armstrong was only ten years old

The video clip of the song features the story of a teenage couple, played by Jamie Bell and Evan Rachel Wood.

Like the rest of the videos from the album American Idiot, Samuel Bayer was the director.
The video features one of Green Day’s touring support guitarists, Jason White.
