Jennifer Hudson - National Anthem at Super Bowl 2009
National Anthem by Jennifer Hudson at Super Bowl 2009, Video and Lyrics
Jennifer Hudson sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” in her first public appearance since the murder of her nephew, brother and mother.
Hudson became the second consecutive alumna from the American Idol television series to perform the national anthem at a Super Bowl (Jordin Sparks sang the anthem at Super Bowl XLII).
The national anthem was translated into American Sign Language by Kristen Santos.
Here is the video of Jennifer Hudson performing live the USA National Anthem at Super Bowl 2009.
The Star Spangled Banner - USA National Anthem Lyrics
Oh, say! can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming;
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there:
Oh, say! does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In fully glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh, long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Oh, thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust”:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Composed by Francis Scott Key, “In Defense of Fort McHenry”, September 20, 1814.
Congress proclaimed it the U.S. National Anthem in 1931.

Hudson’s performance (lip-synched or not) was one of the best parts of the Super Bowl — second to the ads of course

It would be great to have our National Anthem sang at all function as they were in past years. why do we have to change our custom and heritage for anyone. We helped build America and now they are letting illegals take over everything ,we have dress codes for work and if we let illegals go to court and change them while not being payed legals and photos finger prints and background checks this is wrong and the white house is letting them do it this is america folks when are you going to wake up Obama plays his speech and all jump on his side he did the same thing when running with the flag pin ‘ he said he didn’t want to take sides’ then why run for president and when his points started going down he put it on but he never pledge the flag till his ratings started to down again, come on folks lets not let these peole run our america if we went to their countries they wouldn’t chage a thing we’d have dress like they do,do you want everyone else to have all you make and have. Yes some people went over borad with buying but maybe now you’ve learned don’t spend over what you make or the same pace you make always saveand don’t be greedy like the white house is and house speaker, lets let the rupblicans and democrats want people in our government that will work for the real citizens and those that have paid their way to become apart of America and work with us not for any other person and that our children should not be learning about gays in school they can learn from their parents and we still say they should draw up a living will and that would be easier to break then a marriage. and nobdy should be allowed to remove our crosses or God from any where or any thing we still have ethics and civil rights and heritage in our America and our patriots and brave ones our troops that our covering every one of you even athiest and agnogtic and those that think whites are bad and mean were not we have helped more races than any other country over seas and at home bring our people home in one peace and those that don’t like our culture and God and our National Anthem go some where else to live, people couldn’t let our State be different than all those over seas .we wanted a nation of one citizenship legally one flag 0ne National Anthem one Bible ours no koran because that only says your not pledging your self to America and it legal citizens all working to have a great education system for all our children and jobs for all to take care of the selves no welfare no subsidizing for anyone and no giveing up our soical security or retirements everyone works towards their own. learn to live with our laws and customs. our President s don’t get everything free and they have the same health plans we do and all pay big taxes for all the wages they get and the very wealthy no bady sends our over seas it stays in our usa to help our chidren and rebuilding systems that work for all in trafficing to health.Don’t know whom you can trust when your own President calls you names and takes you money for overs seas when our farmers could be prducing our vegtables and such and no high taxes we want stuff grown and made here so our money stays here god bless those that care.
