Jill Scott - Hate On Me Lyrics
If I could give you the world
On a silver platter
Would it even matter?
You’d still be mad at me
If I could find in all this
A dozen roses
Which I would give to you
You’d still be miserable
In reality, I’m gon’ be who I be
And I don’t feel no faults
For all the lies that you bought
You can try as you may
Break me down but I say
That it ain’t up to you
Gone and do what you do
(Chorus)
Hate on me, hater
Now or later
‘Cuz I’m gonna do me
You’ll be mad, baby
(Go ‘head and hate)
Go ‘head and hate on me, hater
I’m not afraid of
What I got I paid for
You can hate on me
Ooh, if I gave you peaches
Out of my own garden
And I made you a peach pie
Would you slap me?
I wonder if I gave you diamonds
Out of my own womb
Would you feel the love in that,
Or ask “why not the moon”?
If I gave you sanity
For the whole of humanity,
Had all the solutions
to the pain and pollution
No matter where I live,
Despite the things I give,
You’ll always be this way
So go ‘head and….
(Chorus)
You cannot hate on me
‘Cuz my mind is free
Feel my destiny
So shall it be
Jill Scott - Hate On Me Single Review
Jill Scott is back with a funky new single Hate On Me, the first single from her third studio album The Real Thing to be released in November. Watch out - mama’s got a brand new bag.
Any fan of Scott’s work will realise that this is slightly more up-tempo compared to her usual fayre, but she is in defiant control of the new pace. It is a direct artistic response to her most vitriolic detractors and puts them firmly in a humble place. Jill’s voice is still such a great instrument it’s hard not to be summoned into her world by it.
A clean, crisp, defiant, enraged, enrapturing rebound song as ever there has been made. I suppose it is a daughter of Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive. The descending notes of a big horn section are perfect for pacing up and down in your bedroom with a hairbrush, and the gospel harmonies tickle your sense of strength. It’s really magical, motivating stuff.
Incredibly soulful, intensely personal, intimate, inspiring even, all those things we have grown to love and expect from an empress of neo-soul.
