Foundations by Kate Nash , Music Video and Lyrics
“Foundations” is a song written by British singer-songwriter Kate Nash for her debut album Made of Bricks (2007).
It was released as the album’s lead single in June 2007, her first single since signing with Fiction Records after the success of her debut single “Caroline’s a Victim”.
Kate Nash - Foundations Lyrics
Thursday night, everything’s fine
Except you’ve got that look in your eye
When I’m telling a story, and you find it boring
You’re thinking of something to say
You’ll go along with it, then drop it
And humiliate me in front of our friends
Then I’ll use that voice that you find annoying
And say something like,
“Yeah, intelligent input, darling.
Why don’t you just have another beer then?”
Then you’ll call me a *****
And everyone we’re with will be embarrassed
And I won’t give a ****
My fingertips are holding onto
The cracks in our foundation
And I know that I should let go, but I can’t
And every time we fight I know it’s not right
Every time that you’re upset and I smile
I know I should forget, but I can’t
You said I must eat so many lemons
‘Cause I am so bitter
I said, “I’d rather be with your friends, mate,
‘Cause they are much fitter.”
Yes, it was childish
And you got aggressive
And I must admit that I was a bit scared
But it gives me thrills to wind you up
My fingertips are holding onto
The cracks in our foundation
And I know that I should let go, but I can’t
And every time we fight I know it’s not right
Every time that you’re upset and I smile
I know I should forget, but I can’t
Your face is pastey
‘Cause you’ve gone and got so wasted
What a surprise
Don’t want to look at your face, ’cause it’s making me sick
You’ve gone and got sick on my trainers
I only got these yesterday
Oh my gosh, I cannot be bothered with this
Well, I’ll leave you there ’till the morning
And I purposely won’t turn the heating on
And dear God, I hope I’m not stuck with this one
My fingertips are holding onto
The cracks in our foundation
And I know that I should let go, but I can’t
And every time we fight I know it’s not right
Every time that you’re upset and I smile
I know I should forget, but I can’t
And every time we fight I know it’s not right
Every time that you’re upset and I smile
I know I should forget, but I can’t
And every time we fight I know it’s not right
Every time that you’re upset and I smile
I know I should forget, but I can’t

a poignant story of the unexplainable forces that keep us in the most terrible of relationshps. By seeing the poster, I am assuming the message is to leave….. “but i caunt.”

This song is fricken amazing. It tells the story of a strong girl who couldn’t let go of a love that she couldn’t deal with anymore that even showed signs of possible abuse (read it how you like). I love the analogy of her holding the whole relationship together with her fingertips. She tried so hard not to let him down and just to give it a go but after awhile she just couldn’t do it.(especially after he threw up on her trainers, lol.) The song is so much fun so hilarious the way Kate Nash portrays it. The music video is so worth it. You almost can’t listen to the song without watching music video and all the little socks and toothbrushes and watches dancing all around. Plus, to top it all off, her accent is adorable and the song would not be the same without her brilliant voice.
