Katy Perry - One of the Boys Album Review

One of the Boys by Katy Perry, Album Review

One of the Boys‘ is the second album from American singer-songwriter Katy Perry.

This album is so much fun and you can really tell she loves doing what she is doing. She sounds great on all the tracks, we definitely recommend this album to anyone.

The album is Perry’s first album since her Red Hill Records Christian rock debut, entitled Katy Hudson, which was recorded in 2001.

It’s not going to win a Grammy for album of the year, but is one of the best albums of the summer. It is full of really fun songs. Katy Perry’s voice is as unique as the songs that she sings.

Editorial Review from amazon.com

Ever since the November 2007 digital release of the hilarious, zeitgeist-capturing single “Ur So Gay,” Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Katy Perry has been wowing critics and fans alike (including the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna) with her big voice, sassy attitude, and feisty, confessional songs. Katy’s debut album, One of the Boys, is a sharp, witty pop-rock gem filled with candid tales of neurotic ex-boyfriends (”Hot N Cold,” “Ur So Gay”), crazy road trips with friends (”Waking Up in Vegas”), and figuring out who you are along the way (first single “I Kissed A Girl,” “Fingerprints”). While the album displays Katy’s feisty, girl-power swagger, it also reveals her more vulnerable side on such regretful ballads as “Lost,” “I’m Still Breathing,” and “Thinking of You.” Although just 23, the Santa Barbara, CA-born native has been writing songs and playing guitar for several years, and possesses the flair and confidence of a veteran storyteller. Catch her in all her glory this summer when she joins the Vans Warped Tour for its entire coast-to-coast run.

I find just the title “Ur So Gay” extremely offensive, and I’m a straight girl. When gay is used as a slur, it really sets back any progress the LGTBQ community has made. I don’t find it edgy or cool or cute for her to sing such bigoted lyrics.

Are you kidding me? Her work is fluffy dreck.

  4. Dylan Says:

Lexis, lmao. She never intended to offend anyone. It is an awesome song. Every girl, or almost every girl, has one of those guy friends or runs into a guy romantically that tends to be a little more into themselves than into you. It just so happens that gay men are usually like that, not that it’s a bad thing but for a man who is with a woman it’s a little funny. It’s not her best song but it is a really fun(ny) song. Jesse, dreck? Try using vocabulary that people actually know of. I had to dictionary.com that junk, and i know im not the only one. haha. Her music is awesome. But i guess we all have different opinions and tastes. I guess mine is just better ;) just kidding.
Anyways, this album is almost flawless! The best songs are One of the Boys, Waking Up in Vegas, Thinking of You, Mannequin, Hot ‘N Cold, If You Can Afford Me, and Self Inflicted. I’m not sure if it was released on a deluxe version or not, but she has a song called long shot that i love. it took some getting used to but its grown on me :)
