k.d. lang - Hallelujah Lyrics and Video

Hallelujah by k.d. lang, Music Lyrics and Video

k.d. lang recorded a version of “Hallelujah” in 2004 on her album Hymns of the 49th Parallel. She has several times been chosen to sing the song at major events, such as at the Canadian Juno Awards of 2005, where her rendition “brought the audience to its feet for a two-minute ovation.”
Lang also sang it at the 2006 Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame on the occasion of Leonard Cohen’s induction into the Hall of Fame. Of that rendition, Cohen’s partner, singer Anjani Thomas, said: “After hearing k.d. lang perform that song at the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in 2006 we looked at each other and said, ‘well, I think we can lay that song to rest now! It’s really been done to its ultimate blissful state of perfection’.”
Lang also performed the song on 12 February 2010, as part of the 2010 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Vancouver, British Columbia. It has so far peaked at number 2 on the Canadian Hot 100, debuted at 61 on the Hot 100 and peaked at number 19 in Australia. It also peaked at #61 on Billboard Hot 100 chart.

k.d. lang - Hallelujah Lyrics

I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do ya?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Well baby I’ve been here before
I’ve seen this room and I’ve walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew ya
But I saw your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah

Maybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who’d out drew ya
And it’s not a cry that you hear at night
It’s not somebody who’s seen in the light
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah

  3. Davey Says:

What the hell is wrong with Canada - you cannot find this live Olympic video anywhere because the stupid committee blocked it!?!?! At least let us Americans buy it on iTunes or something Jesus Christ you retarded greedy bastards.

  4. Davey Says:

It is not Canada blocking the video from websites such as YouTube. It is the Olympic committee, which has copyrights to the opening ceremonies and any words and logos associated with any summer or winter events. Hallelujah means to praise God and use his name in vain. Nice.

There really are no words that could possibly relay the feelings I have when I hear KD Land sing in general, but this song the way she sings it is by far the best of the bests ever to fall on any human ears. It makes my soul transcend the universe.

Glorious–k d lang has the voice of an angel. My heart breaks whenever I hear her sing hallelujah.

I too love this version and can’t believe anyone else could ever sing it the way kd does. It absolutely made me a part of the song when I first heard it years ago. I usually don’t cry when hearing someone sing, but this one did me in. Now I wonder if there is a CD made from her singing it at the olympics. I so want it.
