Lily Allen - Alfie Video and Lyrics

Alfie by Lily Allen, Music Video, Lyrics and Review

“Alfie” is a song written by Lily Allen and Greg Kurstin, produced by Kurstin for Allen’s debut album Alright, Still. The song was released with “Shame for You” as a double A-sided single in 2007. It is about her younger brother, Alfie Owen-Allen, smoking cannabis in his room in addition to her commenting that he watches television and plays computer games too much.

When Alright, Still was released in July 2006, “Alfie” reached number seventy in the UK Official Download Chart. The double A-side entered the UK Singles Chart at number forty-four on digital downloads only, and then to number fifteen when combined with physical single releases. “Alfie” entered the Official UK download chart at number seventeen.

The song is really catchy and the video is so funny but the puppet is a bit creepy, enjoy ! :)

Alfie was released in Japan on the 11th of July as a Japan-only EP (which would chart on the albums charts). The EP features six songs and three music videos as a CD extra.

The video features a puppet playing Alfie, whom Lily takes drugs away from, as well as catching him masturbating over “Roxy and Babs get it on” pictures, and stopping him taking beer from the fridge. The video was released to iTunes in America on May 8.

Lily Allen - Alfie Lyrics

Ooooo deary me,
My little brother’s in his bedroom smoking weed,
I tell him he should get up cos it’s nearly quarter past three
He can’t be bothered cos he’s high on THC.
I ask him very nicely if he’d like a cup of tea,
I can’t even see you cos the room is so smokey,
Don’t understand how one can watch so much TV,
My baby brother Alfie how I wish that you could see.

[Chorus]
Oooooo I only say it cos I care,
So please can you stop pulling my hair.
Now, now there’s no need to swear,
Please don’t despair my dear Mon frere.

Ooooo Alfie get up it’s a brand new day,
I just can sit back and watch your life waste away
You need to get a job because the bills need to get paid.
Get off your lazy arse,
Alfie please use your brain
Surely there’s some walls out there that you can go spray,
I’m feeling guilty for leading you astray,
Now how the hell do you ever expect that you’ll get laid,
When all you do is stay and play on your computer games?

[Chorus]

Oh little brother please refrain from doing that,
I’m trying to help you out so can you stop being a twat.
It’s time that you and I sat down and had a little chat,
Just look me in the eyes take off that stupid thick hat.

[Chorus]

Please don’t despair
Please don’t despair
Mon frere

Lily Allen - Alfie Single Review

Released March 5, 2007 (UK)
July 11, 2007 (Japan)
Genre Pop, ska
Length 2:46
Label Rega
Writer Lily Allen, Greg Kurstin
Producer Greg Kurstin

Poor Lily is finding herself with a lot of babysitting to do while her dad goes off doing ridiculous things with a bow and arrow.

The song starts off sounding like something out of those musicals your mum likes to watch. Almost worryingly jaunty, it is rescued by a nice production and Lily’s shrewd way with a lyric. But you probably already knew this anyway, since this has been doing the rounds online for over a century.

So let’s get back to the video. Alfie is played by a TWO-FOOT MUPPET. Obviously the most important thing about the whole release.
