Shadow Of The Day by Linkin Park, Music Video and Lyrics
‘Shadow of the Day’ isn’t quite what you’d expect from Linkin Park, who have traditionally been associated with rap-infused nu-metal.
There is plenty of meaning in this latest single, which is an emotional slow burner which eventually builds into a high octane rock ballad.
Doesn’t really sound like Linkin Park but it’s a cool song and the video is pretty cool, but I wonder why they only had Chester in the video ?
Linkin Park - Shadow Of The Day Lyrics
I close both locks below the window
I close both blinds and turn away
Sometimes solutions aren’t so simple
Sometimes good bye’s the only way
[Chorus]
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey
And the sun will set for you
[End Chorus]
In cards and flowers on your window
Your friends all plead for you to stay
Sometimes beginnings aren’t so simple
Sometimes good bye’s the only way
[Chorus]
And the sun will set for you
The sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey
And the sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey
And the sun will set for you
And the shadow of the day
Will embrace the world in grey
And the sun will set for you
[End Chorus]
Linkin Park - Shadow Of The Day Single Review
Linkin Park wrote more than 100 demos when making their new album, ‘Minutes To Midnight.’ If ‘Shadow of the Day’ is one of the highlights of that horde of recordings - releasing it as a single suggests it is - then the only positive is that we don’t have to listen to the whole lot. From the moment Mike Shinoda’s hoarse voice reveals “I close both locks below the window, I close both blinds and turn away,” like it’s a heart-wrenching moment for the listener as well as the window-closer, it’s clear we’re in cheesy rock ballad territory. Linkin Park are actually trying to sound like Snow Patrol. Worse, they’re coming up short.
Was that strings I just heard? Where’s the rap part? It appears they’re moving in a new direction. U2 producer Rick Rubin adds in soaring guitars to give the song an epic quality. Still the track lacks the backbone to make you pay attention, let alone care. As Shinoda whines melodramatically about sunsets and sad goodbyes, it’s clear this drivel is destined to accompany a montage of teenagers ‘finding themselves’ on a trashy American drama.

First time I heard this song it completely blew me away. I think Minutes to Midnight is one of the greatest albums released in recent years and the strong political message in this song fits nicely with other songs on the album

Its a great song… I just lost my little brother, and this song hit home for me. It was on his playlist in his car, I didn’t even know who sung it, when I looked it up, I was quite suprised it was linkin park.

I just lost all of my friends days ago because I broke a major promise and everything just crashed.I tried again, but nothing seemed to work.I was at home locked in my room when I heard this song…and you guys are right. It is the only way. Especially when my mother died yesterday. There’s nothing else I can do but listen to this song. That’s all I want to do. That’s all I will do until I’m with her again. Thanks, guys. I need this.

I woke up at 4:30 this morning for finals and this song was playing when my radio alarm went off. I sat and listened and it blew me away. Never would have guessed it was Linkin Park but it was fantastic all the same.

I just buried my 19 month old son two weeks ago and I had them play this at his service. It was in a gothic church and sounded so incredible. When my son died this is all I listened to on my iPod. Thanks Linkin Park for this song.
