Michael Jackson recorded Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile” song for his 1995 double album “HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I“. During the final concerts of his HIStory World Tour he dedicated the song to Princess Diana.
Charlie Chaplin composed the music, while the words were written by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons. In the lyrics, the singer is telling the listener to cheer up and that there is always a bright tomorrow, just as long as they smile. :)
Michael Jackson’s brother, Jermaine Jackson, sang Smile at his memorial service on July 7, 2009, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, shortly after Michael Jackson’s friend Brooke Shields mentioned it had been Jackson’s favorite song.

With teas in my eyes and a heavy heart I listen to this song and see your ever similing face. That is exactly what you always did, “Smile” through all that you went through. You have been so gifted by God to be this amazing talent with the sweetest heart filled so much with love. I love this song one of my favorites you do such a “Fantastic” job.
