Thriller is a 1984 hit single recorded by Michael Jackson for the Epic label. The 14-minute video is regarded by MTV as the greatest music video of all-time, and the song itself is considered to be one of Jackson’s signature songs.
The song was written by Rod Temperton and produced by Quincy Jones, and features a guest soliloquy from Vincent Price.
The video was released on December 2, 1983 and was directed by John Landis who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jackson.
It was the most expensive video of its time, costing US$500,000, and Guinness World Records listed it in 2006 as the “most successful music video”, selling over 9 million units.
The video won two Grammy Awards, in 1984 for Best Video Album and in 1985 an award for Best Video, Long Form.
Michael Jackson died unexpectedly on June 25, 2009 at the age of 50.
