My Chemical Romance - Desolation Row Lyrics and Video

Desolation Row by My Chemical Romance, Music Video and Lyrics

My Chemical Romance covered the Desolation Row song for the Watchmen movie.
The original song ‘Desolation Row’ is the closing track of Bob Dylan’s sixth studio album, Highway 61 Revisited, released in 1965.

Watchmen is an upcoming 2009 American superhero film that adapts Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ 1986 comic book limited series of the same name.
The song will be featured on the movie soundtrack, which arrives in March when the film hits theaters.

Listen the song here, this is the official video.

My Chemical Romance - Desolation Row Lyrics

They’re selling postcards of the hanging
Well, they’re painting the passports brown
And the beauty parlor’s filled with sailors
The circus is in town
Oh now look here comes the blind commissioner
Well, they’ve got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker
The other’s in his pants

And the riot squad they’re restless
They need somewhere to go
As Lady and I look out tonight
From Desolation Row

Oh Cinderella, she seems so easy
“Well, it takes one to know one,” she smiles
And she puts her hands in her back pockets
Oh Bette Davis style
And now but here comes Romeo, moaning
“You Belong to Me I Believe”
And then someone says,”You’re in the wrong place, my friend
You better leave”

And then the only sound that’s left
After the ambulances go
Is Cinderella sweeping up
On Desolation Row

Yeah

Now at midnight all the agents
And superhuman crew
Go out and round up everyone
That knows more than they do (knows more than they do)
They’re gonna bring them to the factory
Where the heart-attack machine
Is strapped across their shoulders
And then the kerosene

Is brought down from the castles
By insurance men who go
Check to see that no one is escaping
To Desolation Row

‘Cause right now I can’t read too good
Don’t send me no letters no
Not unless you’re gonna mail them
From Desolation Row

This is brilliant. MCR are always awesome. This is much better than I expected and Gerard looks amazing. Actually, they all do. I’ve watched this almost 100 times in the last two days! Great job. The lyrics are extraordinary too - good choice of song. Bob Dylan always rocks.
    THEY’RE BACK.
P.S Caitlin - It is NOT ‘ok’ and them just singing. MCR will never be only just ok.

for a bob dylan cover and for mcr, this is very punk rock, and i love it. its fucking amazing and a great fucking song choice.

  9. lisa Says:

wow way to take the lyrics of a civil rights counterculture poet king (BOB DYLAN) and denote them to a quickie pop punk song for a movie …anyone who studies music, pays close attention to it and the history of it with a refined taste i am sure is deeply saddened by this cover.

  10. Gale Says:

  13. Misha Says:

  14. Kelly Says:

I liked MCR… but this is a travesty for Bob Dylan… Where has all the soul gone? Where is the meaning? Lost in a jumbled wave of lifeless yelling. Just listen to Dylan sing the song. What happened?

  15. Lena Says:

    xoxo love u all haha

  20. Zack Says:

Yeah…Listen, it’s a good song, but it does NOT belong on the Watchmen soundtrack. Watchmen is a very dark novel, with dark humor, but there isn’t a light element in the entire thing. Even the way they save the world is dark. Instead of everyone cheering, it ends in tears and death. This song is just to upbeat to belong, even at the end of the credits of the movie.

  21. Lena Says:

i am back. lol, i love this song, i can’t get enough of it. yes, i am at school, haha. but i don’t care. i love this song.

  22. eriza Says:

    gerard is so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. Jessie Says:

Wow this song is amazing! I’m so glad their back together. Their a band that…Can’t even be discribed in words o.o

    P.S. Congrats Gerard and Lyn-z! :]

  24. Victoria Colthart Says:

they have truely ruined one of the best songs ever written and sung. i an disgusted!

  25. necrophyte Says:

To clear up any confusion: The current entry for this song is wrong, kinda. A lot of lyrics were cut out from Bob Dylan’s original version to make it more aggressive and more relevant to the movie Watchmen, of which it is part of the soundtrack. A few words are added in/taken out/changed here and there too. After about a dozen verifications listening closely, this is what I’ve got.

Thank you for correcting the lyrics.

  26. cam Says:

mcr are brilliant and i dont get why every one sbovered about it being a cover loads of other people have made covers googd no onr moaned and i think the people who moan are out to get mcr

  27. Nik Says:

People’s complaints about this cover would be more valid if they all didn’t sound like pretentious douches.

  28. Zach Says:

Zack- They did it out of respect and love for the song and the lyrics are dark. I don’t doubt it, MCR isn’t dissing on Bob

Someone?- The soul is their, only certain people feel it because of what moves them

Lisa- MCR isn’t going to switch their style to make the same thing, they made this cover with no disrespect I assure you. Also all music should be respected even the new and different.

Meaning less yelling? This angers me, there is always emotion put into MCR’s work, ALWAYS. The Black Parade almost makes me cry.

  29. Ben Says:

This is the best cover ever! I think its better than bob dylan’s original

  30. gina Says:

…SO GOOD THE ONLY THING ABOUT THE MOVIE IS THE ROSCHARCH BACKGROUND WHEN THEY’RE PLAYIN!!!
Other way, I’d just threw up.

I really like Watchmen and I think that this song just… Is not RIGHT in the soundtrack. Even they’re tryin to be something like the Ramones, they DON’T SOUND LIKE 80′S. This soundtrack has music from the 40’s to the 80’s ’cause, huh, THAT’S WHERE THE PLOT WORKS!
And it sucks hearing something that new in the movie…
    and that… non cool.

    WHY DID THEY DO THIS??!!!

    For money?

    I don’t got it.
    Maybe to catch more teenagers.

  31. Lu Says:

    This is amazing! oh yeah!!

  32. Samantha Says:

oh!!! god!!!! i really love MCR!!!!:))please watchers and blah blahs watch these movie!!oh this awakens my day!!!:))well the music video totally rocks!!!ROCK ON!!!how ever…. if MRC will come i will definitely watch the concert with replay and another replay!!!!:))

  33. rachel Says:

    ok yeah
i think they did a very good job at a bob dylan song. there is nothing wrong with doing a modernized cover.. and for a movie soundtrack they couldnt do a ten minute song so i understand the cut. i am happy they are sounding a little more like their old stuff. i have been a fan since the 6th grade and have been through stages with all their albums (three cheers for five years i think for me epitomizes who mcr really is) but i was very dissapointed with their weird style in the black parade. plus the members all look like themselves.. part of me thinks their last cd was more of a gimmick than music… they kind of sold out. but i think going back to their heart and soul is great. the video is pretty good too. gerard looks so much better back to his old style :P LOVE U GUYS

  34. Rachel R. Says:

That song is totally awesome!!! I love MCR so much!!!
This is probably my favorite video EVER. LOVE YA!!!

  35. lily lolita Says:

i don’t like bob dylan at all. i find his voice irritating. his lyrics are clever, well-writen and thought provoking, but listening to any of his songs makes me want to shove my head through a meat grinder.
i love my chemical romance, because of all the dark drama in their videos songs and lyrics. they probably aren’t really that talented, but they make it work. i just know most of the time i like what i hear from them.

that being said, this song was a bad idea.
i’m glad to see that they’re back to some of their earlier style, but this song is useless. the best part is the lyrics and you can’t even hear them. gerard is just screaming throughout the whole thing. i know MCR is better than this. the video is pretty cool, but otherwise this should not have been done.

  36. Darian Says:

I know we’re all entitled to our own opinion. In that case, “Bob Dylan’s the best” To YOU, that might be the case. But to others, they like the cover. It’s not like they STOLE it, it’s not like it’s their song, They didn’t even chose this song for the movie. It’s this crazy thing called Movie Directors, Managers, AND just maybe the person who made the movie??? Hmm, some wild, out there, who-woulda-guessed options, huh? So if you’re gonna piss and moan about this, go to a Bob Dylan fan page and gossip in your little Message Boards, okay?

Thank you for yet again making me waste my time to explain to you people that Bob Dylan isn’t the only “awesome, classical musician ever”. He didn’t invent music. If he did, I would understand. But he didn’t. So everyone should be quiet and stick to what we know, k?
