The band from Bristol, UK, has been quoted as influential by many modern musicians including Hip-Hop star Kanye West and Amy Lee of Evanescence. The Portishead live jazz samples and intentionally lo-fi sound that defines trip-hop could be heard live for the first time in seven years at the 2005 Tsunami Benefit Concert in Bristol.
Dummy is a darker in tone album than much of the music it later inspired, regarded as one of the most influential albums of the `90s. Presented below is the “Numb” single, a classic of the genre that previewed the entire album:
