Roisin Murphy - Overpowered Album Review
Overpowered by Roisin Murphy, Album Review
‘Overpowered’ is the second solo album from former Moloko frontwoman Roisin Murphy. A mixture of r’n'b and pulsating electronica, this album will appeal to fans of Murphy’s previous work in Moloko.
Includes the singles ‘Overpowered’ and ‘Let Me Know’.
Roisin has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard. It is so unique, she is truly great.
‘Overpowered’ is a great album, packed with great tunes, call it disco, call it dance, call it pop… call it what you like, it still adds up to one of the best albums of the year.

Roisin Murphy - Overpowered Review from amazon.com
Following a lukewarm response to her Matthew-Herbert produced leftfield solo debut Ruby Blue,” ex-Moloko singer Roisin Murphy has opted to go properly pop. Bringing together the best bits of Madonna, Giorgio Moroder and The Eurythmics, and mixing them up with acid house basslines and elastic disco grooves, Overpowered is a bid at crossover dance music stardom if ever there was one. It’s a persuasive gambit too. By teaming up with trendy beatmakers like Bugz in the Attic and Groove Armada, Murphy has ensured a pumping, clean and highly individual soundtrack, over which she scatters her equally idiosyncratic lyrics and endearing vocal delivery. The Goldfrapp-esque “Movie Star,” the wickedly insouciant “Footprints,” the searing “You Know Me Better” and the title track all bristle with authentic dancefloor energy. There are some excellent slower tracks too–not least the dubby finale - and though not every song reaches for the sky, there’s a cosmic dimension at work that puts Murphy way ahead of most of her dance-pop competitors. –Paul Sullivan

This has got to be one of the albums of 2007. A fantastic, intelligent celebration of dance and high-grade pop that feels like it was built on foundations of talent, rather than Sugarbabe outsourcing. I’m not sure whether to call this an accessible Bjork, or a quality Kylie. It’s just odd, and sonically scupltured enough to prick your attention; but warm and instantly inviting without being candyfloss vapid. If there’s a line to be drawn, it’s through the best of Grace Jones, via top-shelf Madonna, selective Kylie, on through classic Electribe 101, and into the same intellectual domain as Bjork. That said, this is in no way a copy or crib. It’s just that it’s a serious thrill to find a pop project like this that works with rare integrity, and at their best all of the above have sounded as good as Overpowered. Perhaps it’s just best to call it a right-on, beltin’ Roisin Murphy album, then!

I saw her in brighton, was great fun but she seemed confused.
Maybe because she is with EMI and they are pushing probably for a younger more common fan base, which is probably soo far away from her complex charactor.

The masses demand uncomplicated stuff and that’s what she’s given,
some catchy tunes, but far away from herself.
