Taylor Swift - Our Song Lyrics
i was riding shotgun with my hair undone in the front seat of his car,
he’s got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel,
the other on my heart,
i look around, turn the radio down,
he says baby is something wrong?,
i say nothin’ i was just thinkin’ how we don’t have a song,
and he says…
CHORUS:
our song is a slamming screen door,
sneakin’ out late, tapping on your window,
when we’re on the phone and you talk real slow,
cause it’s late and your mama don’t know,
our song is the way you laugh,
the first date, “man, i didn’t kiss her, and i should have”,
and when i got home…before i said amen,
asking god if he could play it again.
i was walking up the front porch steps after everything that day,
had gone all wrong and been trampled on,
and lost and thrown away,
got to the hallway, well on my way to my lovin’ bed,
i almost didn’t notice all the roses,
and the note that said…
CHORUS
i’ve heard every album, listened to the radio,
waited for something to come along,
that was as good as our song…
cause our song is a slamming screen door,
sneaking out late, tapping on his window,
when we’re on the phone and he talks real slow,
cause it’s late and his mama don’t know,
our song is the way he laughs,
the first date “man, i didn’t kiss him, and i should have”,
and when i got home, before i said amen,
asking god if he could play it again.
i was riding shotgun with my hair undone,
in the front seat of his car,
i grabbed a pen and an old napkin,
and i….wrote down our song.

Here is Taylor Swift talking about “Our Song”
I just sat down one day with my guitar and got in a groove, and went with it. I like to write about how music affects people, and this was fun to write because it’s about a couple who DOESN’T have a song. I like the banjo and you really can’t go wrong with banjo. I wanted it to be last on the album, because the last line of the chorus is `play it again’. Let’s hope people take it as a hint to go ahead and play the album again. Haha!”
Taylor Swift - Our Song Single Review
Taylor Swift’s first two releases were quite amateurish, and while it’s clear that Taylor isn’t going to deviate from the theme of teenage “love” anytime soon, this single is certainly her best to date.
I thought I’d clicked the wrong link when things kicked off with fiddle and banjo. The melody is pleasant and Taylor’s descriptions of the everyday sounds that constitute “our song” have a down-home appeal if one ignores the thinly-veiled references to adolescent dating. I couldn’t help but smile when Taylor wrapped up the chorus by revealing that she’s been “asking God if we can play it again.”
Still, things aren’t perfect. This song’s theme is more universal than anything that Taylor has released to date, but it’s still difficult for those removed from teenage angst to relate. An ear-splitting vocal mistake in the final rendition of the chorus drags the song down closer to talent-show fare. Nonetheless, the fact that I liked it despite my prejudices says a lot about its quality.
